Bernward Lohr studied the harpsichord at the Music Academies in Hanover and Würzburg under Lajos Rovatkay and Glen Wilson. As a soloist, chamber musician and orchestra member he has been concerned with the many diverse genres and facets of 17th and 18th century music. He is a founding member of Musica Alta Ripa. Besides playing the harpsichord and realising the basso continuo parts, Lohr is responsible for the concept and organisation of Musica Alta Ripa’s concert programs and CD productions.
Bernward Lohr’s work has included the organisation of opera projects. Since 2002 he directed several productions with works of Francesco Cavalli, Henry Purcell, Georg Friedrich Händel of Agostino Steffani, composer and Kapellmeister (Conductor and Music Director) to the court of Hanover.
Bernward Lohr also does research in musicology. He is a university lecturer at the Music Academie in Nuremberg and professor at the Musikhochschule in Hanover..
